Peak oil once meant that supplies would someday run dry and production would begin declining until it would approximate an exponential decline. Today the concept of peak oil has returned, but with a totally different meaning. Analysts are now talking about peak demand: people using less and less petroleum, causing reserves to wind up being left in the ground.
